Here at LMB we’re obviously open to a band stretching a song beyond its normal studio length or otherwise changing it for the live setting…that’s, in fact, one of the main reasons people dig live music. (Okay, duh, you can send my regards to Captain Obvious)

But while a band such as Phish is definitely known for kicking out the long jams in concert, there are plenty of other live bands that don’t normally get this label that can still rock out a jam segment either in concert or in the studio.

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a few long-winded tracks from some bands that are not necessarily known for their jamming skills, and we want to know from all the listeners: do you like when “indie rock” bands jam? That’s the basic premise here, and if you didn’t catch it, the title is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.

Radiohead is back at work in the studio (apparently “rebuilt” after the massive wind storms of Europe); speaking of Radiohead, Rock Music Daily has some solid live Radiohead MP3s from 1997.

Looks like the Pitchfork Music Festival is returning to Chicago in 2007, and is now slated for July 14-15th
….So who do you think’s gonna be there? TV on the Radio? The Knife? Are those too obvious?

The next Wilco album has a name and a release date: Sky Blue Sky will be out May 15th (this, according to coverage of a recent Tweedy solo show. Sounds good to me Jeff, but more significant news might be: what’s going to be on that album?)

LCD Soundsystem may finally be adding some U.S. dates to that European schedule…they’ve got 2 nights at the Bowery in NYC (and the 1st night is already sold out?!?). Hopefully, they’ll bring their disco-punk madness nationwide.

Man! This is a heck of a weekend for live music in the Windy City, and I happen to be missing all of it! A couple solid two-night stands and some individual shows I am REALLY pissed that I’m going to miss. Here’s the run-down:

Wilco’s frontman Jeff Tweedy reacted with a punch to the face to an overly-zealous fan when the guy surprised him onstage at a recent show (and apparently tried to plant him a kiss). Clearly, Tweedy felt bad about his reaction and later apologized to the crowd, but the story and a video of the incident is making the rounds. LiveMusicBlog initially covered the incident here and Pitchfork now has the videos posted.

This serves as a reminder to you crazy fans…”stay down there.” It also serves as a nice way to remind you of my earlier post about tonight’s Wilco show at the 9:30 Club being available for live streaming on NPRs Live Music Series at 9 PM CT.

Should be a great show, and I doubt there will be any further disruptions from fans running onstage unless, of course, they’re looking for a fight. Go get ‘em Jeff!

NPR’s Live Concert Series makes another great pick. Next Thursday, October 19th, they’ve got Wilco live at the 9:30 Club in D.C.

Well done NPR, well done.

LMM last caught Wilco at Lollapalooza this August for a solid set of some of their classics and a few new tunes. But since then, I’ve been jonesin’ for more than a short festival slot. They’ll be ending their current tour with two hometown shows at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, so LMM is hoping to grab some of those pre-sale tix when they are released Wednesday, 10/18 at 10AM CT.

Wilco’s next album doesn’t come out until the spring, but frontman Jeff Tweedy’s got a solo DVD release, called “Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest,” that comes out on 10/24. There’s also a nice YouTube clip making the rounds, with Tweedy performing a “great sing-along” song called “The Thanks I Get”…great song, check it:
