Show notes:

Here at LMB we’re obviously open to a band stretching a song beyond its normal studio length or otherwise changing it for the live setting…that’s, in fact, one of the main reasons people dig live music. (Okay, duh, you can send my regards to Captain Obvious)

But while a band such as Phish is definitely known for kicking out the long jams in concert, there are plenty of other live bands that don’t normally get this label that can still rock out a jam segment either in concert or in the studio.

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a few long-winded tracks from some bands that are not necessarily known for their jamming skills, and we want to know from all the listeners: do you like when “indie rock” bands jam? That’s the basic premise here, and if you didn’t catch it, the title is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.

Tracklists includes “stretched out” songs from:

Planning on hitting the Coachella Music Festival this year and have faith that it’ll be another stellar line-up? Well, looks like they’ve already begun a $199 pre-sale for the three-day festival, which is slated for 4/27-4/29 and takes place in Indio, CA. (Apparently, you’ve gotta sign-in/register and use the password “ROXANNE.” Hmm, odd choice for a password. Is someone at Coachella messing with the fans, or do they know more about this rumored Police reunion than anyone else?)

Radiohead is back at work in the studio (apparently “rebuilt” after the massive wind storms of Europe); speaking of Radiohead, Rock Music Daily has some solid live Radiohead MP3s from 1997.

Looks like the Pitchfork Music Festival is returning to Chicago in 2007, and is now slated for July 14-15th
….So who do you think’s gonna be there? TV on the Radio? The Knife? Are those too obvious?

The next Wilco album has a name and a release date: Sky Blue Sky will be out May 15th (this, according to coverage of a recent Tweedy solo show. Sounds good to me Jeff, but more significant news might be: what’s going to be on that album?)

LCD Soundsystem may finally be adding some U.S. dates to that European schedule…they’ve got 2 nights at the Bowery in NYC (and the 1st night is already sold out?!?). Hopefully, they’ll bring their disco-punk madness nationwide.

Glide has a nice feature on a Live Music Blog favorite: Toubab Krewe

and last but not least…

Still got some old gems on tape that just HAVE to be on your iPod? Well, bust out those old XLIIs and zip them onto your computer system with this thing.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o />A glimpse of what’s to come in the world of street art, re-mixing, and cultural mash-ups?

Mark Ronson has created a graffiti art montage set to a cover version of Radiohead’s “Just” (from the album the Bends), featuring Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet. Not only is this one of my favorite Radiohead songs, but this version adds just the right bit of funkiness (maybe it’s the horn section) and really does the original justice by altering it in a unique manner. Though I originally just heard the audio, the video just makes it that much more interesting, with its playful, retro graffiti images taking on life in an urban setting.

From my limited knowledge, I’ve heard that one of the forerunners in this genre is Tim Biskup, whose work is some of the most colorful and interesting that I’ve recently had the experience of digging. A buddy of mine set up a forum for Biskup and his brethren called the Limited Addiction. Join in on the discussion if it’s something that interests you.

Speaking of Radiohead…

…The band is currently working on songs for an upcoming album, and has hinted that they may be looking at alternate strategies for releasing the material. Frontman Thom Yorke alluded to this move on the band’s blog, and several digital music bloggers and biz-peeps took keen interest. My sense is that they may be making a bit much out of Yorke’s cryptic message, but it certainly makes sense for Radiohead to try an all-digital, single-oriented release strategy, as more and more bands try new ideas in the budding DIY digital music realm and online distribution era. Of course, I think that Radiohead has the clout, support, and capability to pull this type of thing off pretty nicely, but it’ll be interesting to see if other bands follow their lead.
