As we’re getting closer to the Spring season, I am trying to focus on getting back in better shape for soccer season. As a result, I’ve been piecing together some tracks from the archives, specifically creating mixes geared towards my workouts.
I know I’m not the only one who listens to a lot of live music for exercising purposes. I bet lots of you have those choice tracks that include just the right amount of live concert energy to push you a bit further, lift a little more weight, or go that much faster. That raw energy of the concert experience can really do wonders for a workout.
With that in mind, I bring you the first in a podcast series known as Hippie Workout Mix. I’ve subtitled Volume 1 “Triumphant Bisco,” as I’ve spliced together a bunch of seriously energizing tracks by the Disco Biscuits.
Although the name is tongue-in-cheek, the musical motivation from these cuts is definitely no joke. Enjoy…

LIVE MUSIC BLOG.com | Podcast #063 | Hippie Workout Mix, Vol. 3 added these pithy words on Oct 17 08 at 9:44 amawesome- maybe barber and brownie will listen and slim up a bit…
totally.
Marc kinda always looks the same, but Barber is looking especially plump these days. If only he knew the motivational powers of his guitar licks during that “10/29/99 – Mulberry’s > Helicopters.”
good stuff…Morph->RLH over Triumph->Helix from that same show though? Both quality. went back and listened to 2.19.99 – FANTASTIC stuff the other day.
yeah, that 3/8/02 Triumph>Helix was def. on my list, but I didn’t want to include too many version of Helicopters (and the 10/29/99 was a keeper). Perhaps I will find space for it on a future mix.
Feel free to make other suggestions.
Vassillios->WTA 4.7.01
Memphis 2.10.99
Ladies 9.8.01
HDPF 10.15.99
anything from 3.27.99 or 4.9.99
Well I am not working out although I should be.. I am on my computer and I think this mix is making me more productive! My jam-music background is weak which is why I read here…and I love this disco-biscuit-stuff. I’ll be looking in your archives for more of this genere.
thanks for the great blog
Jeff
I recently found out about this festival in Moab, Utah called Desert Rocks….anyone been, know about it???
This is great. Do you plan on making more? If you could do one that’s like an hour or longer, that’d be amazing. And an Umphrey’s one would be awesome, too =)
thanks jiglet,
yes, I definitely plan to do more. I was thinking of making them progressively longer. def. thinking about a bunch of diff bands.
I have a few ideas in the works for Vol. 2. I am not as well-versed with UM’s full archive, so let me know if you have suggestions for specific tracks that are high-energy and groove-oriented.
take care
